What is Ludwig\u2019s angina?<\/h2>\n

This is an infection at the bottom of your mouth under your tongue. It If not treated quickly and properly it can develop into a serious infection. When some people think of the word \u201cangina\u201d they associate it with having pain in your chest but the general meaning of \u201cangina\u201d is to squeeze<\/em> or strangle<\/em>. With Ludwig\u2019s angina one of the symptoms is swelling of your throat so if it becomes severe it can strangle a person by cutting off their air so this is why it is called Ludwig\u2019s angina.<\/p>\n

It is named after a German physician Wilhelm Friedrich von Ludwig<\/em> in 1836. It is also known as sublingual space infection<\/em> or submandibular. Although it is an infection that can happen to anyone regardless of age, race, or gender it is most commonly found in the elderly and adults who suffer from diseases. It is uncommon to find this infection in children.<\/p>\n

Ludwig\u2019s Angina Symptoms<\/h2>\n

The biggest symptom, or problem with this infection is that the tissues that are affected can begin to swell and cause your airway to be obscured which means your breathing becomes quickly inhibited.
